Qn 1: Is the BNW model of sex without strings attached and no concern about procreation, an acceptable one for today’s world?

In our opinion, sex without strings attached and no concern about procreation is unaccepted in our society. In Brave New World, this kind of society is acceptable because the notion of "everyone belongs to everyone else" is deeply ingrained into the minds of each and every individual. Sex can happen with anybody, and it would not be wrong no matter who you do it with. It is not treated as a process for procreation at all but instead is treated lightly as an activity that can be carried out with anyone. Furthermore, it is even considered to be wrong and unacceptable if a young woman only stays true to one man for a long period of time in Brave New World. All in all, the society that Brave New World had painted was of one that promiscuity is the way to go in society. However, this is not so in our world today. Promiscuity is not accepted by muslims and both men and women are not allowed to have sex before marriage. They are also unable to divorce their spouse as stated in their Quran. In other countries, promiscuity is also frowned upon but instead being true to only one partner is the norm in our society. When one partner is promiscuous and having more than one partners, he or she will instead be frowned upon, and the relationship between this couple will be damaged. All these shows how promiscuity is not accepted in our society today, and people are expected to stay true to one another, thus drawing a sharp contrast to the society depicted in Brave New World. Although there are people in our current society that have sex without the concern for procreation, but sex is still regarded as something that allows our population to grow in our world today and not merely as an activity that anyone can engage in, therefore sex without strings attached and no concern about procreation is generally unacceptable in today's world.

Marriage is a universal institution that will stand the test of time. Do You Agree?

No , we do not agree that marriage is a universal institution , as it produces no end of problems, and it does not always last forever. The Straits Times has reported that the number of divorces within 5 years of marriage has increased drastically amongst Singaporeans, proving that marriages do not last forever. Marriage requires time, commitment, and also the supporting if your marriage partner both financially and emotionally, and thus buried one with stress and pressure to be able to meet up to the needs of their partner. Many people view marriage as the sealing of vows and the permanent commitment to one another, and get married when their love for each other is perhaps at its peak. However as time passes, love might die, as it is , as quoted by by John Green, 'a shout into the oblivion' and might in the end amount to nothing as people go their separate ways after losing that original love for each other. Some might argue that there are marriages that stay on 'till death does them apart', but it is evident that many a times , what appears on newspapers is the amount of divorces and scandals amongst married couples. Thus, we believe hat gradually, people might start being afraid of marriage because they refer to the end of a marriage as an imminent and unchangeable destiny, and thus prefer not to get married. Therefore, we do not agree that marriage is a universal institution that will stand the test of time.

Is the BNW model of sex without strings attached and no concern about procreation, an acceptable one for today’s world?

No, the BNW model of sex without strings attached and no concern about procreation is unacceptable for today's world. From the excerpt, "Everywhere exclusiveness, just too narrow a channelling of impulse and energy." by Mustapha Mond and "And you know how strongly the D.H.C. objects to anything intense or long-drawn." In BNW, sex is not regarded as something emotional between the two partners and are seen as not a big deal and long lasting relationships are being objected and rare. In contrast, sex in today's world holds a very important significance, it is the ultimate bonding, even on a spiritual level for the two partners. However, some may argue that people get engaged in sex due to various reasons such as for their own personal pleasure and for fun. Yet in today's world, the majority of people regards sex of utmost significance in all relationships and helps both individuals to connect and strengthen their bond at a deeper level. Expression of care and trust is also exhibited. Those that have sex without regarding it as an emotional attachment between the two and not treat it seriously are the minority of this society and many are being judged for the lack of respect for this important emotional process which is essential in a relationship. Therefore, the BNW model is unacceptable in today's world as majority still see sex as important as it holds emotional significance, unlike sex in BNW where it is for various reasons and is not treated seriously.
