Local film reflection
After watching the film menstrual man, i start to appreciate not only Hollywood films but also local films. I learn to appreciate the methods and visual aids that the film makers used to tell stories to the audience, evoking emotions in the audience. Making a film indeed is not cheap nor easy, just the documentary show "mentrual man" requires a cost of $250000 and 8 months worth of filming. Even though making films requires lots of determination and curiosity to deliver each story beautifully to the audience, these film makers have the passion and motivation to complete their task. It is especially hard to make a local film successful especially in a country like Singapore where the domestic market is rather small. Also, local films are mostly appreciated by only the natives as others would not understand the humour or sentiments felt by the locals when they watch the movie. Still, i think that local film makers should not give up in producing more local films and is strongly encouraged to produce more of such films. This allows the world to see and know the unique traits of Singapore. I admire our local filmmakers who persist to deliver stories of Singaporeans despite much difficulties met throughout the journey. The budget, the lost in profit, the amount of time spent did not lead to local filmmakers to give up on their dream to produce a local film. I think this is admirable and the country should encourage more of such talents to produce local films and have pride in their work. Just like Anthony Chen who has managed to take win several awards with the local film "ILO ILO" he produced. This has brought pride for the country, allowing worldwide nations to appreciate what is happening in Singapore. His method and ways of delivering the story has touched the hearts of many audience. I hope in the future, we will be able to see more youngster walk the path of a filmmaker and produce wonderful local films.
